Government support through Aged Care Specialist Officers

Article published on: 19-12-2023

Australia’s aged care system can be overwhelming and confusing to navigate. Clients can be reminded that Aged Care Specialist Officers are available to:

  • explain the different types of aged care services available (eg home care and residential aged care)
  • determine eligibility for Government-funded services
  • refer for an aged care assessment
  • provide financial information about aged care services (such as an estimate of the fees that may be payable)
  • assist in appointing a representative, and
  • provide details of local support services.

A free appointment can be made in person at some Services Australia offices or via video chat.  Access to this support can assist families in navigating some of the complexities of the aged care system and compliments specific financial planning advice including cashflow, funding of accommodation costs and options with the family home.
